SNOW!!

Postby amsroks » Tue Nov 30, 2010 4:50 am

Commuters are bracing themselves for travel chaos as temperatures plummeted to minus 10C.
Road conditions are hazardous nationwide as further snow showers fell across the north, south and east of the country.

AA Roadwatch warned roads are treacherous as air temperatures, which barely got above freezing during the day, dropped further.

Dublin Bus and Bus Eireann said driving conditions were extremely difficult and warned of disruption to services. Irish Rail does not expect any problems with service.

Irish Rail said all services were operating fully despite the Arctic conditions, with a spokesman saying: "We commend our line inspection, signalling maintenance and fleet maintenance teams who have ensured that all routes are open and fully operational today.

"We will continue to work to provide a full service throughout this cold spell."

Bus Eireann said some of its services in west Cork and Rosslare, Co Wexford, have been affected.

Met Eireann issued an updated weather warning that the exceptionally cold weather will continue through the week.

Forecasters said night-time temperatures will drop to minus 10C, or lower, and daytime temperatures will be about zero to 4C. Further snow showers will occur, with a high risk of significant accumulations in the east, Met Eireann said.

Freezing fog is also expected to affect many parts, with Met Eireann issuing a severe weather warning and said the bitterly cold snap will continue for the coming days at least, with sharp or severe frosts, icy roads and freezing fog at times.
