Outlook problem

Postby amsroks » Wed Feb 16, 2011 4:28 am

Since 3 people in IT who tried to fix my email account cant...maybe one of you could!! My computer crashed the other day so logged on to some one elses computer and updated the gdrive so I could get my emails(emails stored on that drive!)
That was grand then logged into my computer yesterday morning and none of the emails I sent or received fri evening were there( after I updated the gdrive again!!)
Then yesterday evening went onto the computer I used fri and the emails were there so moved them to personal folder!
The problem is when I logged back into my computer this morning all my emails from yesterday in my inbox are gone, and I hadn't even read a lot of them, had over 30 in my followup list so no idea who sent some of them!
Outlook is supposed to auto save them and the 3 guys I've been talking to in IT can't fix it and said they never saw this problem before aghhhh it's so frustrating!!
Any suggestions??! Please help!

Pretty unspecific description of problem there.

But make sure that the .ost file is selected as the default data file otherwise all incoming mail will be automatically pushed out of your inbox into an archive folder.

I am not sure what you mean by updating g:

ye it looks like the emails werent going to the ost file on the g drive, but instead onto the local pc.

did you say you dragged them emails into other folders in ur inbox (down the left of outlook)?

also, you have to copy the .pst file from the computer you were using, after exporting them. Then add them back into the outlook console via data file management.

What do you mean by updating G: ?
Is G: a network drive or local disk?
What Operating system?
What version of Outlook?

If the e-mails are in your mailbox (as opposed to your personal folder), you should be able to access them once you are logged on as yourself. If not, try closing outlook, rename the outlook.ost file to outlook.ost.backup, and open Outlook again. This will create a new local store of your e-mails. (If this doesn't work, you can always revert back by changing outlook.ost.backup back to outlook.ost). I'm guessing though, that if your IT guys have a brain cell among them, this is the first thing they will have tried.

Also, another possible solution: Click on "File", and make sure the option to "Work offline" is not selected

Eoin: You are assuming that he is connecting to exchange server and not pop3.

amrocks: how is your mail hosted?
