A town in China has been left red-faced after the "mysterious mushroom" that made national TV reports turned out to be an artificial vagina sex toy. Yes, you read that correctly.
The unknown object made the Xi'an Up Close news programme on June 17, where a young reporter was taken to a rural spot in Liucunbu, outside the capital of the Shaanxi province, to see what all the fuss was about. There she found villagers poking, prodding and feeding water to a "long, fleshy object".
"As we can all see, this looks like a type of fungus, on both ends of which you'll find mushroom heads," said the reporter in the original news piece, which we have featured above.
"On this side, you can see what looks like a pair of lips. And on that side, there is a tiny hole which extends all the way back to this side. The object looks very shiny, and it feels very fleshy and meaty too."
Considering that the villagers had never seen a male sex toy before, the clip quickly went viral in China, where sexually adventurous viewers were able to point out exactly what the "pair of lips" and "tiny hole" were. If you still need help with that one, go ask a parent.
The programme has since added an apology, stating: "We'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for your criticism and correction. Please forgive our oversight!"
