I got a HTC Desire

Postby eoinzy » Sun Feb 13, 2011 5:29 am

I'm a bit late to the party but i've finally gotten a smartphone.
I've replaced my "2006 phone of the year" the Sony Ericsson k800i with the "2010 phone of the year" the HTC Desire.

Just got it today and it looks pretty good. Tryin to get used to the touch keyboard is a pain tho. any time i go to write a txt, i keep clearing it by mistake! so annoying! I was writin a message on facebook and had to eventually put the phone down and come on the laptop, after i cleared the entire message 3 times!!! :x

hopefully i'll get used to it in time.

probably gonna root it in the next while too. so that should get me some cool extra features!

Anyone else got a smartphone?

Crackberry 9700 bold. Awesome for corporate email integratiion. They still havent been able to do Global Address Lookup within email for either the Iphone or HTC's, otherwise I would upgrade.

What fo you mean by Gloabal Address Lookup in email? Lookin up addresses in exchange??

What if someone doesnt work in an office, or doesnt need exchange? Besides, I'm pretty sure you can get an app for that! :p

My favourite apps so far are:
1) Flash-light- Handy if you want to find something without turning on the light/ walking home in the dark!!!
2) Wikipanion- wikipedia app, really good!!
3) Sleep cycle- monitors your sleep patterns and wakes you at the optimal time, although I have a feeling I've been sleeping worse since I started using it coz I'm more aware of how little I sleep!!
4) Tune-In Radio- has nearly every radio station there is, saves you having to download loads of different radio apps!! Today FM annoys me on it tho coz it has a road safety warning every time you click into it before it plays anything else, hence why I don't listen to that station any more!!
5) Facebook...I think that speaks for itself
6) Seabattle.....battleships!!!!!
7) Angrybirds- think that speaks for itself too
8) IMDb- handy if you're having an argument with someone about a movie/ tv programme
9) MyCeleb- its like that myheritage.com site that finds your celeb look-alike..pretty funny!

I rooted my HTC Desire last night so gonna install a custom rom in the next few days, most likely CyanogenMod 7.

FYI, I rooted this and installed that CyanogenMod 7 custom ROM.
Its pretty good so far. The default HTC Sense theme was pretty fancy, so unfortunately CM7 doesnt come with that, but its still good.

I have LauncherPro set as the default launcher/home screen app, with Beautiful Widgets installed too, so I can have a big weather clock and some facebook/twitter widgets too.

Overall, the battery seems to be improved too.

I think we should make a thread for the best apps. I can think of a few anyway.
