Hi Def - Is it worth it

Postby The Goose » Tue Feb 17, 2009 5:55 pm

Ok
So I have dance around getting a HD TV and Blu ray player for a while now so when to a few stores to see is there an actual difference?

    A fook me there is.
Serious difference.

So got me a 40" Samsung 1080p with Samsung Blu ray player to give it a go.

Got The Dark Night, 300 and Rambo (2008) to test it out.

Now, watched all 3 and have to sayt I'm not exactly as blown away as I was in the stores by the view.

Although some action sequences are far better there is not a whole lot more about it.

The only thing I can think of is that the TV and Bluray player need a firmware upgrade to bring out the best of it so will be trying that tonight.

Anyone else not happy with HD or any advice for best viewing.

PS Gears of war 2 on a 40" HD tv is brilliant. Bye bye real world

I reckon HiDef, for the most part, is a gimmick.

Unless you have a Hi-Def source, they're pointless.

If your telly is broken and ya need a replacement, then by all means get one. But, until there are freely available channels in Hi-Def to take advantage of it, theres no point. People jsut want them coz they look cool.

I suppose they're handy if u play XBOX/PS3 a lot or watch DVDs and have already splashed out on a blu-ray player.

They're aslso cool for hooking up a laptop to and messing about with.

In saying that, I intend on getting one as soon as I get settled in my own place!!!

I don't like it, the tv in France is HD and it was like watching someone filming... them filming a film, if that makes sense... like the difference between the feature film and the behind the scenes stuff.

It was too real, booo @ it!

It's only good for Finding Nemo lol

I saw Beowulf on bluray the other day. Was pretty good quality. I've been watching all the australian hidef channels too, like Ten HD and ABC and Channel 7 HD for Neighbours and Home and Away and all that. Have to say it didnt blow me away. Fair enough its clearer and better quality, but its hardly revolutionary. Will have to wait and see if theres any more blurays i can watch to blow me away!
